What the heck is a Woodchuck anyway?

It is of my own opinion that every musician should have a nice set of computer speakers or anything that re-produces music well.

So I recently go together abit of cash and chanced upon a great deal. A $140 system was going at $88 for some reason in Funan, seemed like abit of a clearance sale thing. Warranty, the works. Nothing to worry about.

Features are slightly interesting, 1 sub, 2 satellites.
In any audio system, there are generally 3 drivers, the sub for the bass frequencies, the mid range drivers, and the tweeters which have all the high end detail.
The Sub: It's a wooden cabinet, ported at the front, every kick delivers a puff of air, as is normal for any ported Sub.
The Mid-range drivers... The really interesting one, they're downfiring, blowing volume straight onto the table surface. This is a brilliant piece of engineering, cuz when I fly the satellites, the spread is not as good and the mids dont sound right when heard directly. This unfortunately means that, the overall mids in the system are dampened. The attenuation is very slight, but sometimes noticeable when listening for guitar parts.
The highs are sweet sounding. Turning up the treble does not produce a high end hiss and crackle, but rather adds sparkle that is very pleasing. Something that does not hold true for other systems I've had in the past. Turning up the treble works best for lower volume listening, when less harmonic details come through as a result of lower volumes.

I've been learning some placement tricks lately. The Sub under the table can be extremely woofy in the wrong frequencies. It seems to sound better further out.

Altogether it's a pleasing system to have. I'm sure there are others out there that sound alot better, still I enjoy turning it on everyday for sometime =p. Says enough I think?

$80.. can't beat that for value.

Slight appendage... This is not only a computer speakers system... It utilises a standard 1/8 stereo inch cable for audio input. Works for anything else that accepts it.

Maybe you would consider a low end set of studio monitors next?

M-Audio DX-4. $170-180.
I just plugged that model number out of my head... I'm in too deep. Send help...

Cool!

the only irritating thing happening to mine though is that the main volume pot is getting scratchy.

Hello

great set of speakers, I have them. I use them to mix with, though they arent studio monitors, they do a great job if you keep them flat. GBU
