Progressive Displacement

So after one heck of a day at work yesterday, I find out today that that, was the last major step in the project that I've been part of since April.

Full-time work will come to a close after next fridaya after which I'll be only required to come back to the MOE HQ for only 1 day, or about 8 hours 30 minutes.

I'm probably going to space it out over two half days or 3 half days in order to provide just enough support, while not dragging down my employer's project report card for budgetary expense on relief staff employment.

It's been quite a journey, these past 7 months, and yes I should have saved alot more money... Part of me still wishes I was able to work in a location that was abit more related to what I learnt in school, logistics and SCM management, but I guess if I peel open my time enough, there are always things that I can learn from my time here.

In anycase, this termination of responsibilities, will be a nice break! Now I'm only left to decide whether or not I should s...

Late First Time

I've been at my current workplace for some 7 months now, and come to realise, its been quite sometime (which also means I should have saved up alot more than I do right now...)

Today was the first time I was at a meeting without my boss, with users from a different branch who needed to get familiarised with the new programme we were rolling out. I was given "escort" by one of the Application Support Staff who didn't know what we were doing. To her credit, she never was part of our project group.

So the greenest and youngest person in that meeting, ended up fielding questions and directing the presentation. Quite a first time, and I didnt feel as if I did all that well.

Strange contrast from the days in RP, where presentations are a daily affair, and after a few weeks, nobody really gives too much attention to the whole affair of presentations. It was just done and dusted, and the day would pass.

Perhaps it is about time I learnt how to do the stuff I did today, cuz it was too frank and ...

I've had that only once, going from Yishun to Yishun. If one were to be technical about it, we simply crossed a street and doubled the numbers. I used to live along Yishun St 11, and now I live along Yishun St 22. We moved then simply to take advantage of the fact that a new home loan could also cover renovations. Back then, one could not loan money for home renovations, which in older HDB flats, is needed because the concrete spalls and everything.

Our family doctor is situated just a block away from where I used to live and I dropped by this evening to get a sordid eye sty out of the way. I had dinner at the only kopitiam in my old neighbourhood which used to be pretty bustling as I remembered it in the evenings.

Tonight was a strange night.
Hillsong United - You

I don't post music much nowadays. Less quantity but more quality

Hillsong United - You
As I pray, and wait upon the Lord
I know your grace and now i am restored

As i think of all you've done for me
A mystery of your love

Who walked upon the sea?
Who lived to die for me?

You, Lord
You, Lord
You Are Lord

As I look upon who I am changed
Though I Fail Your Faithful Love Remain

As I sing and worship you found again
No Words Describe Your Love

Who watches over me?
Who's love has covered me?

You, Lord
You, Lord
You Are Lord

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Almighty One
There is none like you

Quickly

1. I took over ownership of Marcus' (Sonic Edge, Vertical Rush) delay pedal. He was nice enough to keep his settings in there. So I had a good time going through those.

2. I have Start/Finish grandstand tickets for the Singapore GP. Friday ones... Only.

3. My brother is making full use of the looping function on the pedal and has been laying down some very cool tunes for the past hour. When it comes to creativity and sheer musicality, he runs rings round alot of people.

He may not be experienced with playing in a band or have really good technical skill. But the creativity and musicianship is all there... Its the opposite for me.

Unfortunately, creativity cannot be practiced while chops can be.

DEMORALIZING!
Blonde Moment

I had a really blond moment this morning that seriously compromised my commute to church.

As is usual for me, I draw money from the ATM before starting my journey. Having had an early start, which might or might nothave been a factor in what happened next, I went right up to the ATM and blanked out when it came to entering my PIN.

It was crazy... no money in the wallet, cannot remember my PIN. I walked away, took a couple of minutes to try and recall... nothing. I have always input-ted my PIN via muscle memory, which did not trigger today.

I did remember it in the end... after having to take the train (slower option). Oh wells.

Love and a Relationship and all that

The Senior Zone has a wordpress site up. Its pretty good and there must be a few heros who take down almost everything in a sermon or a WG discussion... and of course a discussion ensues which so far seems to be a pretty good place for a mashup of ideas.

The latest being - on the idea of love not being self-seeking and how that can be possible... if at all?

I think the first thought or assumption that someone might have when presented with that statement or challenge is that their own needs, whatever they want gets thrown out of the window and is not there ever again... Which is not possible and not entirely biblical since God gave Adam a wife to be his helped, and God blesses the institute of marriage...

Love not being self-seeking obviously refers to something else other than a total depravation of the self... Looking at the context of the verse of 1 Cor 13:4-7, that famous one about love and where the quote of love is not self-seeking comes from, I would conclude this "self-seeking" ...

Is perfect, Perfect?

As with anyone into artistic production, perfection is desired.

Music on a CD is perfect, art is perfect, advertising boards are perfect, Magazine covers are perfect... essentially everything public or relational or artistic is perfect.

I heard of this certain group of tribal people. Cannot remember their name right now, but being a tribal group of people who make art and crafts that get sold for a living, they put an imperfection in every piece... (I think its the amish community) as a way of signifying that they are now perfect, and only God is.

I was just thinking about the stuff I think about after a service... Alot of times it is filled with "Did I do well enough?" In thinking about what I thought about, I realise it sometimes isn't the most helpful think to consider...

Perhaps I should ask "Was Jesus made known? Did what I lead in, speak into my own life?"

Late Saturday night mash up of thoughts.

Anyways, my Pedaltrain 2 has arrived. The last straw for me was last week...

01/09/2008 - 8 Core Curriculum Round II

Biblical Theology - Who is God?
Biblical Allegiance - Who is my Master?
Biblical Identity - Who am I?
Biblical Purpose - What am I called to do?
Biblical Values - What is most important?
Biblical Priorities - What must I put first?
Biblical Empowerment - How can I be empowered (and as I have recently discovered, it is through prayer)
Biblical Foundation - ...

Absolutely brilliant this 8 core curriculum thing.

I was challenged again just after some Bible reading to seek God for more than just an answer to ministry, but also for my life.

It seems sometimes I have that reversed. Even in that though, I thank God for a placement where I am in ministry, in leadership. While I look back and definitely concede there is alot of room for improvement, and as much as I would like to look back with fewer regrets, that is not the case...

What I can be thankful for are the lessons and the opportunities that have come my way. Alot of these things I would have never had the chance to have had I been elsewhere. ...

It is

Born in the East and clothes in Oriental form and imagery, it walks the ways of all the world with familiar feet, and enters land after land to find its own everywhere. It has learned to speak in hundreds of languages to the heart of man. It comes into the palace to tell the Monarch that he is a servant of the Most High, and into the cottage to assure the peasant that he is a son of God.

Children listen to its stories with wonder and delight, and wise men ponder them as parables of life. It has a word of peace for the time of peril, a word of comfort for the time of calamity, a word of light for the hour of darkness. Its oracles are repeated in the assembly of the people, and its counsels whispered in the ear of the lonely.

The wicked and proud tremble at its warnings, but to the wounded and the penitent it has a mother's voice.
Makan

Eat, consume, partake...

I've only heard one English teacher in my whole life say "partake". Of course I would hear it alot in church. Funny how church has its own jargon.

Maybe its time for a new ministry. Jargon busting.

Makan... If the MOE is moulding the future of our nation, surely better food can be provided so that the future might be more palatable. I am not one to complain about food. I can live off almost anything. I will complain though about MOE canteen food. It is...

yup.

Not that the food likes me anyway.
Seems to be the relatively "in-thing" of expression nowadays.

I think I understand why.

- Not too expensive (no more than guitar gear or an Ipod)
- Does not require immense technical skill and practice (unlike a musical instrument)
- Does not require command of language (except to read the manual and also unlike writing or poetry)
- Viewers can view photographs quickly (faster than reading a poem or a story or listening to a piece of music
- Production is easy. Connect, upload, copy tags.

I've been tempted to get a camera. And will also be trying to take better shots soon...
